Charter for
Caterva Saltare Historia

Section I: Name
The name of this organization, formed within the Kingdom of Castilles, a subdivision of the Adrian Empire, will hereby be known as Caterva Saltare Historia (or the Historical Dance Troupe).
Section II: Purpose
The Troupe shall have the purpose to enlighten the populace of Adria, and any others that request our assistance, with the history, reconstruction and performance of dance styles that occurred between the years of 1066-1603. Period dances styles include, but are not limited to: Courtly Dance, Country Dance, Morris Dance, Gypsy Dance, Middle Eastern Dance, Theatre/Professional Dance, Sword Dance, Military Dance. It is also a secondary goal of the Troupe to learn basic dance etiquette and to practice courtly and chivalrous behavior.
Section III: Structure & Responsibilities
As a guild, it is realized that not all members may wish to participate in our Performances, or may wish to study the History. So the Troupe will include two disciplines to focus on each aspect. This, of course, does not exclude a member from participating in both, but allows for personal preference. There will be two Dancemasters, a Dancemaster of Performance and a Dancemaster of Research. The general populace of the Troupe shall have the choice of being considered a Dancer (performance discipline) or Cleric (history discipline). Any new member to The Troupe must become a pupil to a Dancemaster or a person assigned by the Troupe. Should the Troupe become large enough (a minimum of 25 people), there will be a vote of the entire Troupe, with at least 2/3 approving, on appointing a Grande Dance Magister who will be in charge of the entire Troupe.
Article I: It will be the responsiblility of the Dancemaster of Perfomance to keep a current dance manual of the dances perform by members of the Troupe and a video library of performances when possible. It will also be this Dancemaster's responsibility to encourage proper dance etiquette in our dance performances (in dances that require such).
Article II: It will be the responsiblility of the Dancemaster of Research to keep a current book of the research papers written by Troupe members. It will also be this Dancemaster's responsibility to encourage the expansion of our research and to make available to the Troupe a current list of resources to be at the troupe members disposal.
Article III: The Clerics, under the guidance of their Dancemaster, shall have the goal to inform the populace regarding the history of dance during our time period. The Clerics shall assist those within The Troupe with information to help formulate the documentation required to enter an arts project or to prepare a performance should it be needed.
Article IV: The Dancers, under the guidance of their Dancemaster, learn existing dances or choreograph new ones in period style, teach, and perform dances for the populace and any others that request our assistance.
Article V: It is the responsibility of the Dancemasters to conduct meetings at least every sixth month of The Troupe at a time and place agreed upon by a simple majority of the Troupe (2 + 1). At these meetings the following should be discussed, but is not limited to: new dances attempted, progression of pupils, new applications to the Troupe, recent performances, questions or requests for assistance.
Article VI: The Dancemasters may call forth an emergency meeting when and if deemed necessary for the proper running of The Troupe.
Article VII: The Dancemasters shall be responsible for the conduct of The Troupe members. Any charges brought by a Troupe member about a fellow dancer or cleric shall be decided by a court. That court will consist of the Dancemasters, Grande Dance Magister (if one exists) or a member of The Troupe appointed by the Dancemasters that has been approved by both the accuser and the accused.
    Subsection I: Conduct of a member that can have them brought up on charges:
        Failure to maintain the friendship and camaraderie of The Troupe
        Failure to assist the pupils of The Troupe
        Violation of Adrian and/or Castilles bylaws
        Any other conduct charges may be added by a 3/4 majority of the entire Troupe
    Subsection II: The punishments for the above charges may range from an apology
    to the parties involved, via written or spoken word,through the stripping of the Troupe
    member's rights, i.e. being a member of The Troupe, for a time to be specified by the
    court, up to and including dismissal.
Article VI: The general populace of The Troupe, which includes those members holding any office, shall be responsible for informing the general Adrian populace of The Troupe and seeking out new members.
Article VII: The general populace of the guild may be asked to assist the Clerics in their research and compiling of documentation.
Article VIII: The general populace shall report to the guild, during the general meeting, on projects being attempted along with any ideas and/or suggestions to help our fellow Troupe members.
Section IV: Membership
The founders of The Troupe will become the first Dancemasters and general members of the guild. If a founder chooses, they may become a pupil instead of being a general member. From that point on, all new applicants to The Troupe will first be appointed to the Dancemaster of the applicants choosing, or be assigned to a general member to be schooled in our sacred arts depending on which discipline they wish to concentrate on. When the pupil's master deems that the pupil has learned enough, the Dancemaster will approach the Troupe during a general meeting and request that the general populace welcome the pupil in as a full member of The Troupe. The populace, by a simple majority, shall approve the Dancemaster's request or assign the pupil a task that must be completed before entry is allowed. This is to be a research paper on a dance realted subject or a performance to be orchestrated by the pupil. Upon completion of the task, the pupil shall be granted full membership. Should the pupil not complete the task in the allotted time then they are to repeat their pupilship under a new Master, if they so choose or be denied membership into The Troupe.
Article I: A Dancemaster is not to bring an pupil before The Troupe until the pupil has shown their ability in performace or research.
    Subsection I: The Pupil must submit an example of their knowledge of period dance to the
    Troupe. This can be in form of a performance or a paper. It must be deemed worthy by
    the appropriate Dancemaster and a minimum of four (4) other members of The Troupe.
Section V: Honors
Honorary membership can be awarded to any person that has aided The Troupe by assisting in maintaining our goals. Honorary membership can also be awarded to any person who has shown a great love of the game and has helped make it more enjoyable for the masses.
Article I: Honorary membership will be conferred upon a person by a 3/4 majority vote during a regular meeting.
Article II: The membership should be presented to the recipient with as much fanfare as possible.
Article III: Other honors and special recognitions can be created by a 2/3 majority. Other honors could include, but are not limited to, "Order of the Courtly Grace" and "Order of the Sands" for outstanding achievements in the proper area.
Section VI: Changes to the charter
This charter as being ratified by all founding members, who have signed below, along with HRH Dame Etaine, is only to be changed with the consent of three quarters (3/4) of The Troupe at a regular meeting. Notice must be given of a possible change to this document at least one month before any change may be voted upon. All changes must be written and distributed to each member. Each member must acknowledge receipt of the written change. Should a member not be in contact with anyone and contact cannot be established by five (5) members; two (2) Dancemasters, the petitioning person, and two (2) other general members, the member will not be counted as a member for the vote.
